Microsoft-Free Linux PCs-A launch by Microsoft
The system is intended to run in an effective pattern with the software stored both locally and on remote servers. IBM has teamed up with Canonical and Virtual Bridges in creating the offer.IBM declares the system can save businesses $500 to $800 per user on Microsoft software licenses and an additional $258 per user "since there is no need to upgrade hardware to support Windows Vista and Office."
IBM's push into non-Windows computing is the latest challenge for Microsoft's core operating system franchise. Apple, with its business concern Mac OS X system, has started making inroads into corporate computing. And so-called net books -- low-cost systems which are not capable of running Vista -- are becoming famous in emerging markets and other high-growth niches. IBM is offering virtual systems based on the Open Collaboration Client through its Global Services outsourcing and system integration unit.

The series hydraulic hybrid (SHH)- fuel economy
IBM’s modeling software to develop series hydraulic hybrid systems is being used by Eaton Corporation Replacing a vehicle’s conventional drive train and transmission, the series hydraulic hybrid (SHH) system drastically saves fuel and environmental benefits.Hydraulic pumps and storage tanks are used by the system to capture and store energy, similar to what is done with electric motors and batteries in a hybrid electric vehicle.
This is definitely causing fuel economy, by recovering: vehicle braking energy that normally is wasted; operating the engine more efficiently, and allowing the engine to shut off when stopped or decelerating. Like many of the components that make up today's vehicles, the hydraulic hybrid systems are software intensive.

Another victory of technology over human brain
IBM Research and five universities are working together to build computing systems which could simulate and emulate the human brain.
The computer would go with the brain’s abilities, while rivaling its low power utilization and compressed size. With inspiration from the structure, dynamics, function, and behavior of the brain, the research team heads to break the conformist programmable machine approach. . The enduring objective of the project is to display low-power, compact computers that approach mammalian-scale intelligence.

Another endeavor by IBM!
Researchers from Harvard University and IBM are working together to discover organic materials that will make solar cells cheaper and more efficient. They’re harnessing the influence of hundreds of thousands of idle PCs to do it.
The researchers hope to discover and isolate organic molecules which can be pooled to change more sunlight into electricity and thus making solar cells much more economical.
Alan Aspuru-Guzik, the principal investigator and a professor in the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology, at Harvard, is hopeful and optimistic about the discovery.

HP’s opening in software on the Net
The company's acquisition of online photo service Snapfish last year was an example of how HP thinks it can use attention-grabbing Internet applications to bolster its conventional hardware business. Shane Robison, the company's chief strategy and technology officer, said, HP is also focusing on building a superior push into managed services. Most of HP's business comes from technical support for its products. But the company foresees managed services, which entails having clientele outsource their work to the computer giant, as another grand break. The company would advise customers on the hardware and software components they needed and how to string them together. Robison, keeping the agenda hidden, declined to say which specific cities the computing giant is targeting.

Computing clouds
Dave Douglas, senior vice president of Sun's Cloud Computing Business Unit, said that there are three basic ways to differentiate computing clouds. Firstly compute layers have to be involved. The first layer is infrastructure as a service, or bare-bones computing, Secondly platform as a service that provides an abstract view of resources mainly for developers. The third is software as a service, with on-demand applications such as those from salesforce.com or the iTunes Store.

Sun's Cloud Computing
Senior vice president of Sun's Cloud Computing Business Unit, Dave Douglas, claimed that his employees are working on cloud computing and developing appropriate infrastructure for that. The first is that it needs a "one service fits all" structural design. Multiple customers are kept in mind, before building infrastructures for cloud building. Even then each customer gets his own view of resources it uses. There are so many attributes in cloud computing.

Fame and name for data storage
It is said that Managed IT outsourcing is likely to boost in recognition at the expense of enterprises undertaking managed storage. Senior security policy professionals participating in the London meeting of the Chief Security Officer Interchange debated on changing dynamics of risk management, outsourcing and the opportunity for cloud computing.
Philippe Courtot, chief executive of management solutions provider Qualys, told the seminar he anticipates security professionals will come to realise the SaaS model is a more effective alternative for data storage than having companies take on the accountability themselves.
According to the meeting's conclusion, operating fundamentals of managed storage linger sound, while investors welcome the return on investment provided by collocation hosting.

IBM-A small gesture
IBM's new Express Portfolio contributions will include radio frequency identification, or RFID, managed services for retailers, medical imaging storage for health care companies, and online backup and e-mail recovery.
Approximately 70 percent of the new product offerings are in the managed-services area because SMB customers often cannot afford to purchase the hardware and software or don't have a desire to operate it, Case noted.
Elaine Case, director of IBM's small- and midsize-business unit noted that the Express Portfolio was developed with an assured set of criteria that products and services had to be included.
